Welcome to the Franklin Public Library in Franklin, Pennsylvania. This Web site was designed to assist you in quickly finding the information about the Franklin Public library and the larger resources of the World Wide Web (WWW). It was also designed to make it accessible for individuals with handicaps.
For example, a viewer can change the size of the words on this page by choosing View>Text Size on the Browser menu and choosing the appropriate size. The link at the very top right of this page explains how to do this.
The Franklin Public Library pictured at the left was founded in 1894 and has had several homes, although its current location on Twelfth Street has been its home since 1921.
The original structure was built in 1849 as a residence and required extensive renovations in 1921 to make it suitable for library use. A children's room was added in 1964 and another wing was added for the adult collection in 1978. Both of these additions greatly expanded the public use areas of the library.
Mission Statement
Every citizen has a fundamental human right to have access to information, opinions, and ideas, and to the full range of society’s literary and artistic creations. The Franklin Public Library is committed to providing a friendly atmosphere for the education and pleasure of citizens of all ages in a setting that allows enjoyable utilization of these materials.
Statement of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) on Accessibility for the Web.
“The Web is an increasingly important resource in many aspects of life: education, employment, government, commerce, health care, recreation, and more. The Web is used for receiving information as well as providing information and interacting with society. Therefore it is essential that the Web be accessible in order to provide equal access and equal opportunity to people with disabilities. An accessible Web also benefits others, including older people with changing abilities due to aging.”
Donations:The library is funded by a variety of sources including municipal allocations, state aid, local sponsors and from you, our patrons. Last year we raised over $28,000 in our annual fund drive. As we strive to offer the latest in technology and resources we must consider the cost to the library. These services are free to the public but not to the library. As you plan for the future, whether in your annual giving or possibly your estate planning, remember the Franklin Public Library and give a gift that serves so many.
