The library is closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular hours resume on Tuesday, May 28.
Did you know that Memorial Day originated in the late 1860s, in the years following the Civil War? It was first called Decoration Day, and did not become an official federal holiday until 1971. Click here to learn more about Memorial Day at History.com.

The library is seeking individuals to serve on the Board of Directors with terms beginning in May 2013. Applications are available at the library.
The library board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:00 PM, in the meeting room on the second floor of the library. The 12 person board includes 10 members elected by the Franklin Library Association (a non-profit organization established with the purpose of maintaining a library to serve the Franklin area), one member appointed by the City of Franklin, and one member appointed by the Franklin Area School District. Elected members serve a three-year term and may be re-elected for a second three year term. The next election takes place on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 5:00 PM.
The Board of Directors is responsible for securing adequate funding for the library, setting policies, and evaluating the Library Director. Each board member is expected to actively participate in one or more committees of the board.
Interested parties should contact Debbie Oaks, Library Director, for further information or to obtain an application for consideration. Stop by the library, call 432-5062, or email director {at} franklinlibrary {dot} org. Completed applications should be submitted by March 18, 2013.
The library will be closed on Monday, December 24, 2012 and Tuesday, December 25, 2012. We will be open regular hours from Wednesday, December 26, 2012 through Saturday, December 29, 2012.
We will also be closed on Monday, December 31, 2012 and Tuesday, January 1, 2013. We will resume regular hours on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
Enjoy your holidays!

We are excited to offer you a new service – digital lending! This new service, powered by OverDrive, is free with your library card.
You now have access to best-selling and classic audiobooks, eBooks, music, and video available 24/7 from the Oil Creek Library District’s digital branch. You can browse the collection, check out with your Franklin Public Library card, and download to PC, Mac, and many mobile devices.
Here are the steps to log in and being using your account.
- Visit the Oil Creek Library District’s digital branch.
- In the top right corner, click Sign In.
- Select the Franklin Public Library from the drop down menu.
- The next screen asks for your library card number and PIN. The library card number must be seven digits, so add as many zeroes as you need to the beginning of your card number. Leave the PIN blank. Click the Sign In button.
If you have never used OverDrive before, you will need to install free software to check out and use OverDrive digital media. For help installing the software on your particular device, visit Overdrive’s Device Resource Center.
- In order to use audiobooks, music, and video, you will need to install the OverDrive Media Console.
- In order to read eBooks, you’ll need Adobe Digital Editions.
- There is also an OverDrive Media Console app for mobile devices.
Once you have your device set up, browsing the collection and checking out is easy! When you log in to the digital branch, choose Digital Media Home in the menu bar at the top of the screen. Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including iPods, Sony Readers, Kindles, Nooks, and many others. Titles will automatically return themselves at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!
To get started downloading audiobooks, e-books, and more, visit the Oil Creek Library District’s digital branch.
We hope to add to our collection gradually. If you are browsing through the digital branch and decide to purchase something by clicking Buy it Now, the money will go to the library for purchasing new e-books and audiobooks!
